What size will my new plant be?

Most of the plants we sell are available in different sizes and levels of maturity.  Some of the size differences are due to variety and not age!  we will try our best to accurately describe the size of the plant you are ordering so there won;t be any unhappy surprises.  if you ever have a question about the size of the plant you want to order, please shoot us an email.  We are happy to try to answer any questions you may have.

 

Venus Flytrap:

Please note:  Corm (bulb) and plant vary depending on the variety and the time of year (dormant plant leaves are smaller)  These sizes are a general guideline. 

(sized by the width of the corm)

Small: typically about 1/8+" across, with several juvenile traps. 1-2+ years old. Suitable for a 2" pot.
Medium: typically about 1/4+" across, with possible mature traps. 2-3+ years old. Suitable for a 3" pot.
Large: typically about 1/2+" across, with multiple mature traps. 3+ years old. Suitable for a 4" pot.
Extra Large: typically about 5/8+" across, with multiple mature traps. 4+ years old. Suitable for a 4-6" pot.

Sarracenia

Please note:  rhizome and plant size for different species and hybrids varies considerably.  A fully mature Rubra may be the same size as a seedling Flava.  These sizes are a general guideline. 

Seedling: : These are seed-grown yearling plants, grown indoors under lights.  Suitable for planting outdoors with protection from full sun and extreme winters.  Also suitable for indoor growth for up to two more years under a grow light.

Small: Single growth point, established outdoor for full sun, with juvenile pitchers.  Seed grown 2 plus years old or division from mature plant.
Medium: 2 to 3 years old, fully established for outdoor growth.  Possibly blooming sized, Rhizome is typically ½” in diameter, more than one growth point
Large: typically about 3/4" thick, with mature tubes. 4+ years old. Suitable for a 4” or larger pot.This plant will have 2 or more growth points and is blooming size.

Jumbo: This plant is mature with multiple growth points and mature pitchers.  This plant is blooming sized and will need a 4” or larger pot depending on plant variety.

 

Sundews

Small:. Suitable for a 2" pot.
Medium: usually around 2 years old, suitable for a 3” pot.
Large: We would suggest a 4” pot for these.

These guidelines apply to Threadleaf, cape, Binata and Spoonleaf.  Pygmy sundews will be shipped potted because they do not handle transplant well.  There are 2 or more in each pot, as described in the listing.
